Why I Started Sunday Social — And Why It’s Back
Share
After ten years away from football, I finally decided to start playing again.
Unfortunately, my comeback didn’t go exactly to plan. I spent much of the season injured, moving in and out of the team, and never really managed to get the amount of football I had been looking forward to.
When the season finished, I wasn’t ready to stop. After waiting ten years to return, I didn’t want another long break. I just wanted to keep playing.

How Sunday Social Started
I started getting in touch with local players and people I knew from around the area. Before long, there was enough interest to get a team started—and Sunday Social was born.
There was no grand plan behind it. The idea was simply to organise a game and give people somewhere to keep playing during the off-season.
From Tiny Goals to 80 Players
The photographs from that first Sunday Social capture exactly how it began: a small group of local players, a few cones, tiny goals and no goalkeepers.
It was basic, but it was football—and that was all we needed.

From that first session, Sunday Social has grown into a community of around 80 players. Different ages, different clubs and different levels of ability—all connected by the same desire to keep playing football.
The games are competitive, but the atmosphere stays relaxed. There are no league positions and no season-long pressure. You turn up, get involved and play.
Sunday Social Returns
This off-season, Sunday Social is back.
We want to keep everything that made the original sessions enjoyable while introducing a little more camaraderie and friendly competition.
Each week, four players—two from each team—will be nominated for Performance of the Match. It won’t simply go to the most talented player or whoever scores the most goals. It is about recognising someone who stood out through their effort, attitude, teamwork or contribution to the game.
The players will vote for the winner, and each weekly winner will go into a monthly draw for Box To Box Football merchandise.

Where Sunday Social Meets Box To Box
Sunday Social and Box To Box Football share the same foundations: a genuine love of playing football.
Box To Box is made for the players who keep turning up—the ones training after work, playing at the weekend and finding any opportunity they can to get a game.
Sunday Social gives us a real football community in which to wear, test and develop our products. It keeps the brand connected to the people it was created for and to the game that inspired it.
This isn’t a brand watching football from the outside. We’re on the pitch, playing alongside the same people we’re designing for.
What Comes Next
I don’t know exactly how far Sunday Social can go, and that was never really the point.
What matters is that we keep creating good games, welcoming new players and building a proper football community—without losing the relaxed atmosphere that made people want to come back in the first place.
Good football. Good people. One more game before Monday.
See you Sunday.
